Motivation

I hired a young lady recently. And during the interview I asked her to tell me about the best and about the worst job experiences she had ever had. As it turns out, 100% of her experience was in house cleaning. She happens to love cleaning houses and she was clear that her motivation was around doing the best job at house cleaning.

That was interesting to me. She is 41 years of age and perfectly content cleaning for the duration of her working career. I have degrees in speech/language pathology but I was motivated to also open my own company, grow it, and to be in a position where I could hire others, supplying them with a much needed, pleasant working environment.

What I learned during the interview was that we cannot judge another person’s motivation. The young lady loves to clean. She is motivated by jobs that allow her to do just that. I am happy that I am in a position to hire her and to help her fulfill her own personal goal of being the best cleaning tech in my company and in the tristate. Good for her that she has found her calling and I hope that my readers have found theirs!
