Being Thankful

I recently ran two back-to-back coupon specials which were both time consuming and stressful.  I am finally starting feel that I am above water.  In the midst of that situation, I met some of the most wonderful human beings.  We picked up new clients.  But on the flip side, we met some unreasonable folks too.  Just goes along with the territory.  It’s called life.

On yesterday, I received my third….no fourth…..or maybe even fifth threat.   The enraged man told me that he was going to blast my business all over the internet in an attempt to ruin my company.  The threats come for any number of reasons and I’ve learned it does not take much to set certain people off.  Perhaps it took me longer than usual to answer the phone or to return a message.  Maybe I refused to extend a deadline. Perhaps a purchaser did not get the exact date he or she wanted.  All types of things set people off.

Recently the threats have grown more aggressive, with certain folks indicating that they will attempt to ruin my company.  And so in the midst of that, I remember thinking…..Never again will I run another coupon special.  Never again will I subject myself to this abuse when very few of those who receive the huge discounts ever book for regular service anyhow.

But suddenly a news report flashed across the television that broke my heart and brought me back to a very frank reality.  My issues or problems are nothing compared to what some are enduring.  The worst that can happen to me is that someone will slander my company.  That’s fine.  We’ll recover.

However, what about the woman whose son was stomped to death as he left a party recently?  There is no bouncing back from such a tragedy.  Stories of that nature help to keep me focused in on what really matters in life.

And so….what matters?

a.  My mother is in her 70’s and still alive.  My dad is in his 80’s and still alive.  BOTH my parents are strong and in great health.  That’s what matters!

b.  All of my siblings are alive, as are their children.  That’s a blessing and I’m thankful.

c.  There is a roof over my head and I have a loving husband and the world’s sweetest dog.  I’m thankful.

d.  I have the greatest employees in the entire world who are sweet and loyal and awesome.  I’m truly grateful.

e.  I have the most terrific clients who all are on a first name basis with my husband and me. They have my home phone number and know that if ever there is an issue they are free to call.

It’s all about putting things in perspective.  And in the scheme of things, I have so much to be thankful about.  What about YOU, Reader?  Are you able to look past the dirty dishes and cluttered house and small problems to see a silver lining beyond all that?

Thanksgiving is upon us.  Thank God for another year. Thanks for so many new ventures and opportunities.

I simply say, “thanks”.
